400 wont start
I replaced the cam on 400 sb. I thought i marked everything for the distributor like i was supposed to, but this was my first time so i may not have. Whats the best way to start over to get it timed right or any other suggestions on why it wont start. Ive tried slowly turning the distributor a few degrees in both directions and nothing. Rockers arent to tight, i loosened them, and it is getting fuel. Also does anyone no what timing degree its supposed to be set at, it did not have a timing tab. Thanks...

your distributer may be way off. did you line up the dot on the cam gear at 6'o clock with the crank at 12'o clock. if so you might need to take the #1 spark plug out and find tdc for the #1 piston then take out your distributer out and line the rotor up with the #1 piston. you may need to bump the starter till it drops in then put your plug back in tighten it up enough till u can slightly move it so u can adjust it , make sure your wires are all hooked up right then fire her upNo body messes with the Night Rider

one note on finding TDC... Make sure its on the compression stroke or you will be 180 deg out.
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
