how much nos will a hypertonic piston handle?
you have to make sure the rings do not but so you will have to add more gap for Nos . not a big fan of this type of piston if every thing is rigth maybe 125 shot . they are good for mild engines .a good forge pistons would be better at this
I have to agree with Pat. I love hyperuetectics in a naturally aspirated street motor, but if you're movin' up to a blower or serious NOS, I think a forged piston will serve you better in the long run.
The machinest I use says exactly the same thing.........Hypers don't like NOS.
...I had an '84 Camaro & when it had the original 305 I put nitrous on it. The 125 jets worked good and made a huge inprovement in performance! But of course, it wasn't enough! So in went the 150 HP jets! Ah haw, now I could burn off even more! It also seemed to handle this just fine. Ah, but whats that they say about it 'never being enought'? Well in went the 175 jets! And out went the pistons!!! Bill
THANKS, I KNOW FORGED ARE WHAT U WANT WHEN MOVING TO NOS OR FORCED INDUCTION, BUT I'M TRING 2 GET OUT CHEAP.Ii'M 17 AND I'VE GOT A 305 WITH A LIL WORK DONE, I CAN OUT RUN LT1'S AND GT'S BUT I'D LIKE 2 HAVE A LIL KICK SO I CAN OUT RUN A LS1 CAMARO. I AS JUST WONDERIN IF ABOUT 100 OR 125 SHOT WOULDN'T HURT 2 MUCH ON THE WEEKENDS A LITLE BIT. tANKS
.....a 305? That's what I had in my '84. Go with the 125 shot {as long as the motor is in good shape}. I also retarded the timing & used colder plugs {you should also do this}. This probably isn't necessary but I also had a seperate fuel cell & pump just for the nitrous. And I had a switch where my nitrous could only be activated at full throtle. Be careful though as nitrous needs to be respected. In fact I'd recommend that you go to www.camaroz28.com & go to the nitrous section. Ask some questions there. They also have a 2nd. generation Camaro section {you have a '79 Camaro, right?}. Anyway, good luck. Not trying to scare you, but myself I would NEVER use nitrous again unless I had the money handy to replace my motor if something went wrong...... BillQuote:

dont be afraid of nos....especially a small shot like youre talkin about....retard it 3 deg for every 100 shot...use the jets your kit recommends...dont get greedy...if youre gonna go into the motor, buy forged...when you order pistons, get the 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring package...use a hellfire by speedpro top ring....have the top ring land .300 from the top...have them gas ported....still dont get greedy til youve done the bottom end also...a 305 is not the ideal engine to gas but if youre in it, do the crank, rods, & bottom end as well...use a wide open throttle activation micro switch....i'm guessin you dont run a 9" or a lenco tranny or slicks, hit it once its rollin and at the top of each gear for a couple seconds at a time....you'll be fine
We had a set of hypereutectic pistons we tried in a short track motor. The comp. ratio was around 12.5 to 1 on gas.We where turning about 7,500 on the 3rd lap of (hot laps) we he pulled off the track. He sais he lost alot of power. We did a cranking test and noticed two holes where low.We pulled the heads and the tops of two pistons where gone down to the 1st. ring land. This was about 3 years ago. This was the first and last time we tried to run the hypereutectic pistons.Quote:
