Is quench always important?

Lot of conflicting suggestions on this board - and often from the same people.

On the one hand they say "Build your own motor so you can have it the way you want it". On the other hand they poo poo you when you decide to do just that based upon the ability this provides to do it just a little better then the mass produced guys.

If you want to squeek the last possible bit of compression on pump gas to get the most efficiency out of your motor, you need to deal with quench, chamber polish, correct cam, etc.

I you are just going to throw together any old hack, then save yourself some time and money and just buy a low compression crate motor.

I think it goes under the same heading as degreing the cam, bal. the motor amd p & p the heads. i won 18 round track races, 1 point champ, won some drag races, and a lot of st. races, built all of my motors, and never heard the word "squeek" until i came here. having a perfect motor don't mean nothing without a little luck, and I rather have the luck. :HMMM: :cool:

I like the luck idea.We made the "show" worked our way up to 3rd place and we where trying to pass and the track had gone to "one" line on the bottom and it was all tacked up and we just could not get by the first two cars.Well the first two cars got tangled up out of turn 3 and we went right by.That was luck.

That's my point, everybody has always turned their motors harder and had more HP than I did, but I won be being patience and handling, and luck. :cool: **)
