Scooter, actually a 283 bored to 4 inches and using a stock 283 3 inch stroke is a 302. (in the 50's and 60's we called a 301, don't know exactly why) A 283 bore with a 327 3.25 inch stroke is a 307 which Chevy produced from 67 to sometime in the mid 70'2. Had one in a 72 Chevelle. Decent torque for a family car and decent gas mileage to boot.
