new crate motor no oil pressure

ok so i bought a brand new h.o. 350. i primed the motor 45psi. then started it 35 psi at idle then 65 psi at 2000 rpm (break in 20 mins) everything looked good. called it a night. next morning started it up no oil pressure? check the line from block to gauge. no blockage. started again and gave it a little rev still no psi? i pulled the dist. messured pump shaft to top of block 7 1/4. dist. length is 7 1/2. i turned the oil pump shaft with prime tool and there is resistance like there should be. what else should i check ?? i have never had this before. and i have built many motors and never had a problem.

try a new oil gauge and you want a mechanical gauge if you have one make shure the line did not get pinch or if plastic it did not melt if it run and is low psi one of the front plugs fell out behinde the timming set or the oil pick fell off or the oil filter if you plug the bypass is may be it to

the gauge is mechanical. i didnt do anything with the oil filter bypass. i was reading on hear that maybe the bypass on the filter mount could cause this? the engine didnt make any noises and it ran smooth. i dont really want to take it all apart cause of warranty issues. i am going to change the filter and take a look at the oil bypass while the filter is off. thanks for the info

If I were you, I would try a new oil pressure gauge and line. If it still doesn't fix it call the shop you bought it from, and be prepared for a fun ride. I'm sure they aren't just gonna give you another engine? But they should! Are you in Livermore, CA?

If it's a GM crate engine, he can bring it to a dealership and they will replace the entire motor and pay for a mechanic at the dealership to swap it. My friend bought a zz4 and a lifter collapsed and they changed out the whole motor. I later bought it from the dealership for 200 dollars and it was new. I did a cam and lifter swap on it and never had another problem for the 3 years I kept it in a truck.

Sounds like a case of the heat sink off the engine after shut down melting one of those worthless plastic lines, been through it a couple times. You might try taking the oil pressure line off at the engine and see if air pressure through the plastic line will move the gauge. Regulate the air pressure to around 40 psi, match this reading to the gauge reading........

Toss the plastic oil press line if you're running a mechanical gauge and install a #4 braided stainless line.

If you're running an electric oil press gauge, adapt a mechanical gauge to where the electric sender screws in and see if you get oil pressure.

If not, it's probable the oil pump pickup may be loose.

i have a steel braided line on it allready. there is no oil on it when you disconect the line from the block. i havent messed with it at all today but i will tomarrow. i will keep everyone posted. and thanks for the info

Sounds to me like it's time to drop it in the dealers lap. It's a hassle, but if there is a warranty on the engine, and you mess with it very much, they'll give you such a load of crap that you'll be wanting to break something. I speak from experience.

i would take it to the dealer but its not road worthe yet. i still have to do all the check on the new rebuilt 700r4 from bowtie overdrive. plus i changed the heads to dart iron eagle's and have a 144 weiand blower on it. the motor never went over 3000rpm(rev limiter). i guess i should just pull it and take all the stuff i put on it and take it back to the dealer i got it from.
