This has been debated ad nauseum on the Chevytalk.com Performance forum. And like the discussion has gone here, there are gear drive likers and gear drive haters. There is no clear cut answer.
IN THE EARLY 90'S I HAD A STRANGE WEAR PATTERN ON MY MAIN BEARINGS I TRACED IT BACK TO A GEAR DRIVE.THE ENGINE HAD ABOUT 70 PASS'S ON IT WHEN I PULLED DOWN FOR RINGS.RODS,MAIN BEARINGS AND VALVE SPRINGS.I BOUGHT A NEW CLOYES TRUE ROLLER NO MORE WEIRD LOOKING BEARINGS.
