i have a 350 60 over with som speed-pro 10.0 pistons floated pins and som dart iron eagles head 230cc 2.05/1.60 with roller rockers 1.5 but what i want to know is i have a 480/480 left cam and do uall think thats a good cam for a every day driver with 2400 stall please let me know
As I've said numerous times on this forum, I always fill out a spec sheet on the car completely and accurately, send it to Comp Cams, and use their recomendations. IMO it takes all the guess work out of cam selection and I have never been disappointed in the cam and valve train components they recomeded.
I don't thoroughly understand all the different aspects of cam design and always "ask the experts". It's a free service, and works for me !!!!!!!!
THE CAM WILL BE DONE WAY BEFORE THE HEADS WILL BE.IN OTHER WORDS YOUR HEADS ARE WAY TO BIG.I WOULD THINK 230 AT .050 IS WHAT THE CAM HAS FOR DURATION ALSO.FOR A DAILY DRIVER IN A 350 I WOULD CUT THE CAM BACK TO ABOUT 215 AT .050 ON THE INTAKE SIDE AND HAVE A LOBE SEPERATION OF 110 OF LARGER.THAT WAY YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO RUN A STALL.Quote:

Maybe swithcing to 1.6 rockers too.Check clearences first though.
SWITCHING TO 1.6 ROCKERS WILL ONLY INCREASE HIS LIFT.HE HAS A LOT OF MISS MATCHED PARTS.Quote:

"Maximum performance, Full Competition, unlimited Oval and Super Classes over 7000 rpm, 400+ ci"
Why in heaven's name did you choose these heads for a daily driver? They'll make power from 4,500 to 8,500 in a 400+ cubic inch motor. You won't believe how horrible they'll be in a daily driver 350 street motor. No power under 4,500 r's. Sell 'em on ebay and start over with some 180 cc heads would be my best advice.
I AM SORRY THESE HEADS ARE WAY TO BIG.ON OUR 421/434'S WE TURN TO 7,500 OR SOMETIMES MORE THIS IS THE PORT VOLUME WE USE IF WE RAN ON A TRACK THAT MAKES US RUN THE STD.HEAD STYLE.LIKE RICHARD SAID I WOULD TRY AND SELL THEM.LOOK SOMETHING AROUND THE 170 CC SIZE.LOOK FOR A CAM WITH A DURATION OF 215 ON THE INTAKE SIDE.Quote:

You know Erik, it is what it is. I've already suggested that he sell them and get some 180's, you've suggested he get some 170's, what else can we do? Trying to make these heads work on the street would be like trying to swap a Merlin into an Isetta.Quote:

Seems it would be easy to find some racer dude to swap your heads to a set that are actually engineered for street, occasional strip use. The cost factor should come out in your favor....... JMO
sounds like a good time to turn this into a weekend bruiser and track star.......no way it will be able to like a DD...find a beater and use it as the daily means of transportation.....if you stick a small cam into that block with those heads it will suck on the street.....if yu want a DD then pull the heads off, find a set of iron GM castings 1.94-1.5 valves and stick a small cam in it......mismatched parts will only prove to be terrible performer. Or do what i suggested ......buy a beater and build the shit out of this motor.

Richard had a very good response on another thread, and I would suggest the same thing to you. Go to http://www.ryanscarpage.50megs.com/combos1.html
and check out the 350's. See what combination of parts were used and go from there.
I think the Merlin referred to was the 1650 cube WWII aircraft engine.

As the others have said: There's no way round selling all your parts and getting different ones. You can keep the rockers, they might come in handy, but if they're expensive ones, also sell them and buy cheap ones.
If your into a DD, please tell us more about the car these heads are supposed to go in. We need to know the transmission, weight and rear axle ratio, then we can head you in a good direction... Without knowing the car no one can tell you what will make a "good" engine for your application. Everyone will tell you that the parts you have are "good parts", but NOT for your application. For full blown race, OK, but if you put them in a pickup or van you're going to see 7 mpg (if that) and be very slow. Otherwise you'll break three normal transmissions in the first half year and possibly bend your car's frame, but you wont be able to pass a dust cart (except at the price of a set of tyres plus one transimssion :3dSMILE: )
I hope this isn't destroying your plans, but there's a good point to all this, too: firstly, your learning something, and second, the parts you have will fetch some good money if you put them on Ebay, so you will have some dough for the real stuff you want...
