flexplate mounting on chevy 350

got a goodwrench 350 bolting up to a turbo 400. Getting ready to bolt them up togerther with new flexplate and torque converter. I need to know which way the flexplate mounts. One side is more flush and the other is recessed a little. Which side should be towards the engine and which towards the tranny or does it matter. I would think that this would affect the starter teeth in the long run. Any help would be great.

If you put it on backwards the starter won't work. The center hole has a raised lip on one side, that goes out away from the crank. On some aftermarket ring gears, the lip is awful small and hard to see, look close. You want the gear close to the block. The gear teeth also should be chamfered on the front side, where the Bendix gear comes in from.
