Vales and TDC
When #1 piston is up on TDC what are the other pistions up on TDC. I want to preajust the liftters before I try to crank the motor after installing heads. Also the timing tag , Is each mark 1 degree? And the before position, is it on left of TDC mark? Also, Where shold I time my motor. It has no emissions stuff at all, not evan a pcv. The only vacume is the Auto trans, power brakes. and the dis. Its a 327 with 350 heads 2nd to biggest vales. Qut Jet carb, HEI. 400 auto trans. and has headers. Thanks, John.

Hopefully #6 piston should be in the same position.

John,
Check Tech's thread index. Lots of good info. However, the short story is:
- Go to TDC and adjust both valves on the #1 cylinder
- Turn the crank 90 degrees (1/4 turn) and adjust #8
- Turn the crank another 90 degrees and adjust #4
- Continue 90 degree turns, and adjust 3, 6, 5, 7, 2 in that order.

Although there will always be another cylinder at the top of it's travel while one is at TDC, one is going to have both valves slightly open because it is between the exhaust and intake strokes. The other is going to have both valves closed because it is between the compression and power strokes. You want to adjust the valve lash on teh cylinder that is between the compression and power strokes. This is also when the spark plug fires, so just follow the firing order.
