I just bought an 62 Impala SS with the engine suffix "HCH." All I could find in my research was "HC" which indicates a 1965 327 with 275 HP and powerglide. What bugs me is I was told it was a 300 HP engine when I bought it. Now maybe the additional "H" means something else adding 25hp, but I can't find anything indicating this.
I found a site that lists the HCH suffix as 1966, 327, 275hp, 4 brl, powerglide, holley carb

Not only does it not have 300 horse, it has the Carter carb and not the Holley. Oh well, as the saying goes, "let the buyer beware."
Still not a loss........just swap in the bigger camshaft.......i think the L79 was the 350 horse camshaft for the 327.....specs i beleive are ....222@.050 and .445 lift....if im not mistaked.....holley carbs are like socks...many around.....no 327 sucks so just needs a bit of work to make up the hp thats all.
Mickey, I think it had the same compression, and 1.94 heads like the 300 HP engine. Don't be so quick to be disappointed. A friend used to street race a '67 Nova with this engine and a 4-speed, and it was very very tough on the other cars in our home town!
The '62 300hp 327 came with a Carter carb.
I always thought the later 275hp versions came with Rochester carbs..?
Thanks for all the feedback. I'm cool with what I have (It's still a 327) and I can always add the beef after I restore the interior.

hey dont worry old school cam grinds are readily available....and cheap too. IMO the 327's big bore short stroke combination was and always will be a strong runner, it was a combination that worked well..too bad they wer in limited production and are not as easily found today....awesome score as far as i am concerned, good luck with the motor.....happy ricer hunting to you....cheers.
