re-building a 265 question!

I will try and make this to the point..I have a 265 in a 57 chevy I want to re-build. Has anyone put this motor to the test? Like installing a 4-71 supercharger? I want to know if its worth Hot rodding the motor! I just want to keep everthing original for once. Any insight would be great! Thankyou

why on this engine ?find a 350 or something that if you smoke it you can find one more.and that is cheap and a lot of like 350?

Like Pat said, wrap the 265 in plastic and store it so you can keep the car original. Get a 350 builder.

I might be wrong, but with the availability of the 283, I think 265s were rare in '57. I wouldn't risk blowing it up.

265's were available in the early 57 production 57 Chevys. Not many out there. If if is the original motor for the 57, I agree to put it away and find another small block to work over. good luck.

The first-ever blown Chevy small block was a 265! Ol' Zora hisself put a 4-53 blower on one of the first ones, to see how much stress the little thing would take. He was pleasantly surprised.

I know what you all mean by shelving it..I'm not trying to break any speed records with this set-up, or any hard core drag racing. Just thinking it would be different and cool at the same time. Besides, its coming out of a 4-door anyway. I just wanted to know if it was doable for a 265? Thanks for the advice!

see what i read was he has a 265 and wants to hot rod it. not a 350:LOL: dude you can smack a 4-71 on it and go at it use anywhere from 6:5-1 up to 8:5-9-1 compression pistons and watch how much overdrive you give it. o-ring the block and have some fun.:3dSMILE: and punch it 60 grab a set of 194-1:6 heads and there u go

hey i did not want see his 265 get smoked when 350 are cheap so go for it

he will not need to O ring the block. the . mulyi- layer steel head gasket will be good and so would fel-pro perma/ blue if you need to o ring the block then start loking for better rods. and some je ross etc piston. now the 350 still is better and cheaper . all shelf stuff that can be had all over

Thanks again guys..I will have to think this one through..The 265 is already smoked, just don't know how bad. I'm sure I will have more questions when I tear into it. I will keep you in touch with what I come up with.
