Since you're going Vortec anyway, why not buy the GM vortec heads. you can get them brand new and stuffed for around $500

Need to know what you want to do with the engine to recommend a head. Stock vortecs are 64cc chamber and that will bump up compression real quick. I'm building a 383 stroker for low rpm torque and streetability, and decided against the vortecs simply because I want to keep my compression at 9:1 static so I can run on 89-92 octane. I bought a set of assembled Dart Iron Eagles 72cc/180cc. It's my understanding that with aluminum you can go a little higher on the compression due to the better cooling characteristics of the metal.

You can run 10.3:1 on 93 octane easily
