I have a 305HO, that was built with the wrong heads. "World" heads are a little spendy for me. The 283 has the same bore as the 305, soooo, could I use 283 heads on a 305? I would like to find heads with 64cc as that would give me 9.7 compression. I think that the 283 fuelie & Power Pack also had flat top pistons as my 305HO. I don't want to use the stock 305 heads because of cracking problems.
"Fuelie" heads are in the 64cc range. The old 283 "Powerpack" heads were 60cc. Don't forget, the Powerpacks don't have any bolt holes, and only a few of the camelbacks have them.
Just thought i would let you know all 305 came with 58cc heads.You can use the power pack head from the 283 but they dont have acc holes.Lets address the cracking issue.Go get a set of tbi 305 heads an have them done up.They have a better port design than the 283 an also if you dont have cooling issues why would they crack.just my 2 cents worth..
not ALL 305's came with 58cc heads. in the later 80s they came with the smog head that also came with the 350!!!!!!Quote:

305 Heads are not prone to crack as bad as the 350 heads . If tou dont over heat them bad ther is no problem . Plus they already have hardened seats
