Starting Questions
Okay......ONE MORE!
Again, my 283 Impala..........
It starts PERFECT, knock on wood, and the
engine doesn't get hot unless it's 90+ outside.
Now, when I start it for the first couple of times
it starts no problem........however once I cruise
it around town and it gets to operating temp
180 - 190, and I turn it off, maybe to run to
the liquor store or local brothel, and come back
to start it up, it turns over a few times before
she starts...........any suggestions?
Thanks,
James

It's probably fuel draining out of the float bowl. My Quadrajet does this. It's only a small amount and makes the engine a little rich on a hot start. Leaning out the idle mixture screws no more than 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn should help the car start more quickly on a hot start, but it will start more slowly on a cold start. My engine was starting so quickly on a cold start that the oil pump couldn't get oil to the bearings in time so I leaned out the idle a bit and it also sped up the hot starts.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
