can anyone tell me about small block heads that have the numbers 882 on em

i went to mor-tec but cant even find em on the chart.are they any good for rebuilding and do they breath good?

They're pretty much standard 350 heads, nothing to get excited about. Many do have hardened seats, though.

They are reportedly decent breathers, probably equal to the fuelies, but they are light castings and are prone to cracking. A lot of people have had good results with them.

I've had a set in the garage for about three years that I use for door stops.

I went thru 3 sets and gave up. $20 a pop for magna-fluxing... Decided to save myself some money and use a set of 487X's.

882's, they're about the worst head put on the 350 Chevy. Just because they're the worst heads doesn't mean they don't work, though. They flow about the same in stock form as most other 350 heads, but they were cast with very thin metal, GM is cheap like that, which makes them crack prone and no good for porting because you will hit water after not much material is removed. What's this mean? They'll be fine for your stock and mild performace rebuild that doesn't require porting. Would I put them on my truck? No, but that is only because I have a pair of 062 and a pair of 339X heads that are better.

Here is a list of flow bench tests on several heads and although the 882s have the lowest volume in the runners, they flow pretty good and are said to be good for low rpm torque. In these times of high gas prices maybe they are reasonable to use for the street because they are from a previous detuning program during a previous gas crisis in the early '70s. I am going to try them for a while and check the mileage as well as seat of the pants acceleration, but I am not aware of a direct set of tests of 1/4 E.T.s for the same car with different heads and no other change, but some magazine may have that too if you do a search.
