The 305 that came with my camaro has had the top end off for some time that I can tell, rust in the cylinders and on the pistons...over all pretty bad looking. As I said before I am pulling it and putting in the 350, everything is going fine except I can't get the flexplate on the camaro to turn due to the pistons being seized...can I just pull the motor with the torque converter still attached and then deal with it? Thanks in advance for any help.:confused:
Not sure about on your camaro, but on my 86 El Camino with a 305 we pulled the tranny to, then just slipped the convertor off and pulled the motor with the flexplate still on.
Unbolt the transmission and pull the engine with the converter. Prop the trans up and put a catch pan under the snout, fluid will flow freely. Not the best way to treat the front trans seal, but with the engine stuck, there's not much you can do about it.
I believe you'd be ahead of the game to pull the engine and tranny as a unit. I would suspect that the tranny will have to be rebuilt or replaced and it's sure easier to pull both at the same time.
I agree with NTF, depending on what trans your Camaro has it might not handle the power of a 350 without a rebuild or upgrade
Yeah, if you're going to change the tranny too, pull them both at once.
I would squirt some Kroil in the cylinders and let it sit for a day. Then try turning/rocking it back and forth at the crank snout with a breaker bar. That worked on a frozen 400 I bought.
From the look of that front cylinder, it ain't gonna turn over that easy.
Thanks for the advice gents...I went ahead and pulled it out today, the torque converter came out with very little trouble...as far as I can tell it faired ok. I got it seperated from the 305. Tonight I will be hitting the books on the wiring and hoses that run all over the engine compartment, in the morning...insert 350, by dinner...looking for a new set of rear tires! LOL. Later guys.
