I know the LT1 (92-???) engines had reverse cooling flow, but I have seen dates that include some of the L98 motors.
I have a 83' 350, 4 bolt main short block. I have a TPI unit from an 87 Camaro and I am buying a set of world heads for my setup and I was going to use the water pump and all pullys and brackets from a 86 Camaro. Is the water pump from an 86 Camaro normal flow? I need to know this before I buy my heads.
did the car have 1 or 2 serpentine belts only. if it did most likely its a reverse flow pump. i can tell u that on a 87 suburban i bought had reverse flow w/p but not sure on the camaro...joe
You're mixing "reverse flow" with "reverse rotation". The latter pump just turns the opposite direction, the coolant still goes the same way.
So a " reverse rotation" pump is still compatible with early small blocks? but I am assuming that the components (alternator, AC, Etc.) must be a "reverse rotation" also.
The Camaro that I want to pull the water pump, AC, Alternator, etc from is a 86 Camaro and it has 2 belts. I want to mate it to ane earlier 82-83 block, Can I do this?
First of all, a REVERSE FLOW water pump doesnt look like a regular Chevy pump. The dstributor is on the front of a reverse flow engine.
A REVERSE ROTATION pump looks exactly like a regular water pump except that the impeller is shaped to pump water when the pulley is turned the opposite way.
OK, what is a reverse rotation engine? Any small block that had a serpentine belt (not a v belt) is reverse rotation. If your engine was originally equipped with a serpentine belt, it is reverse rotation as well is the fan blade. Dont mix them....
