I have a stock 350 except for a Edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock 600 carb. and Sanderson headers. I'm not looking for optimal performance but want a cam that will give a radical sound and idle. I plan to have the stock heads ported but what is the largest cam that I can install without worring about piston to valve clearance. (OR), what will stock heads need to take a higher lift and duration? Most streetrods I see have a mild tone but I want a wild sound that will turn some heads.

The most cam your gonna practly need is just a mild cam, the hot cams with lots of lope, are no good for anything except drag racing, a mild cam will give you moderate lope, but nothing like a hot cam.

You'll turn some heads all right. The geeks will turn and say "wow, a race car". The old guys will turn and say "look at the geek trying to run a race cam on the street. What a dumbass"
If you want to make an impression on EVERYBODY, bolt a 6-71 on it.
This will get the job done, but you'll need heavier springs
ROUGH IDLE, MODERATE PERFORMANCE USAGE, GOOD MID-RANGE HP, 3800-4200 CRUISE RPM, 11.0 TO 12.5 COMPRESSION RATIO ADVISED. BASIC RPM 3800-7200

6-71 would be awsome, however, my budget(wife) says no way! I do like the roots blower Whine as was thinkig if putting gear drive on it.
What about a mechanical solid lift cam.

That is basically the same cam that came in 375 horse 327 Vettes in '64
