Corvette 283
Couple of questions........
What does the Corvette 283 that a standard 283 doesn't have?
Which will have more power, if it does.....Corvette 283 or standard 327?
Thanks,
James

Several additions to the differances..differant intake, exhaust,cr, manifold & clutch. Differant ditributor & timing.
The Vette in 1960-61 had a much as 315 hp(FI) & 270 hp(2 carbs). The 327 in 1962 had 250 hp(4 bbl).Don Meyer, PhD-Mech Engr(48 GMC Trk/chopped/cab extended/caddy fins & a GM converted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow).

Re: Corvette 283
James, you've got torque and you've got horsepower that will each provide you with a different "seat of the pants" feel of power depending upon how they are applied. Without having looked at the torque and horsepower curves for these two engines, I'm going to guess that you have a lot more torque at low RPM's with the standard 327 than you do with the hot 283... and the 283 will put out more horsepower up in the higer RPM range.Originally posted by JamesD

A lighter car with a lot of "gears" will go real good with the 283, and a heavier car with a 3 speed auto trans will move better with the 327.

283 was i believe the first motor to produce 1 hp per cubic inch
that was the 57 283 fuel injected which had 283 hp the 327
has a larger bore and stroke producing more tork the piston dia
on a 327 is the same as a 350 but the 327 has a smaller stroke
than a 350 it is a good combination of bore and stroke you get
good tork and lots of rpm due to the shorter stroke. 327 will kick
but over the 283.
