engine questions
im new to this sight. so i have a 67chevelle, and the guy i bought it from put a 350 from a elcamino. at first the engine started fine, now you have to crank it for a whileand pump the gas alot. my second question is whats the average oil pressure for a 350
-
A couple things spring to mind: 1. The choke needs to be checked/reset; and 2. You need a tune-up.
As to oil pressure, some say you need 10lbs for every 1000 rpms.
-
i dont have a rpm gauge yet
-
RPM gauge? round these parts we call em tach's but hey some say tomato some say tomahto, lol welcome to the board, just pulling your leg, you should be about 15-20 psi at a high idle +- 5 psi. and yeah i would check the choke, take a look at the plugs also see how they look. let us know how it works out for ya.
-
ok thanks, would i be better to get a carb with electric choke
-
my oil psi is reading about 25 at idle
-
Who needs a choke? pull the damn thing out it just gets in the way and hangs up. its kinda like an appendix you can live without it. 25psi @ idle is really good for oil pressure is that at normal operating temp?
-
the car started right up when i first got it in febuary, but latly it wont start as easy as it did before
-
Starts good in February but not now, disconnect the choke, its flooding. Like The Man says, "Who needs a choke?" especially when its warm out.
-
ya but before it started right up and now its not, so it still has a problem, i dont like chokes either , but it is manuall, i really never use it
