valve covers

Can there be such thing as a vaccume leak through the valve cover gaskets? i know they are bad because the leak oil onto the exhaust manifolds and i'm replacing the tomarrow, but if oil can get out can atmospheric pressure get in and go through the valves to create a leak?

The inside of the valve covers should have pressure, not vacuum.
Are you running a pcv valve?

if you have a vac. in your valve covers then you have more than a valve cover oil leak. you should not have a vac. in you valve cover, and if you do then your pcv valve or breathing system is not doing what its supposed to do. you need to tell us why you think you have a vac. under your valve cover. if you had a vac. in the valve cover then it would be sucking on the valve cover gaskets not leaking oil out of it. sounds like your breathing system is not working and its building up pressure in the motor and blowing the oil under the valve cover gaskets, and that would be a pressure problem not a vac. problem. put you valve cover gaskets on and clean you breather system out. do you have a pcv valve? if you don't it might be something to think about. this might help
