    newbie questions

have an 86 Chevy Silverado w/ 305 5.0 4BBR. I need to replace a few gaskets on the cyl heads. Do I just unbolt the heads and put new gasket on? Is it that easy? What all is involved?

    Thanks

The short answer is NO, it is not that easy. Buy the Hanes manual for your motor, or pick up a paperback from one of the major bookstores on rebuilding a small block Chevy.

I'm not trying to avoid your question, but in the long run, that may be the best answer you could get.

When you say "a few gaskets on the heads", are you talking about the head gaskets, intake gaskets, or valve cover gaskets?

I would recommend Vizard's book, "How to Rebuild a Small Block Chevy" as an ideal primer for the price. It essentially breaks down procedures, even if you're not doing a total rebuild, and has some excellent pics. Plus, it fits just about all SBCs.
