Extra coolin fan
Hi all,
Been away for awhile doing on my 79 Camaro. She's lookin well, still a bit to go.
I have a question, In traffic the temp starts to go up, so I was thinking of adding a extra fan in front on the raditar and then have a swtich in the car that in traffic I can flick to turn the fan on to blow cool air around the engine.
But, (1) Has anyone done this, how did it work out, (2) What the best way to run the wiring through the firewall?
If any one can help I'd be really greatful.
Thanks
Niall

Re Fan
Several questions Bud. Do you have a fan shroud ?? What is your running temp..... Do you have A/C... What temp thermostat are you running... Thanks DH

Hi dude,
I not sure what the tempstat is, but the car runs at 100 to 120 normal, but in traffice it raies to 220, and I have to run the heater to cool the engine. Theres no A/C in the car.
Thanks
Niall

Go to your furnace supply shop and get a neat little thermoswitch for like ten bucks that you can attach to a rad hose. They are available in many temp ranges and work great. I wire 'em in direct to the battery so the fan runs a while after shut-down, but this can be hard on the battery.

Are you running a vacuum advance distributor?
If not, you should be.
The vacuum should be sourced to manifold vacuum as well.
Running a centrifugal advance only distributor or a vacuum advance distributor with vacuum selected to ported vacuum will lead to overheating in traffic and at idle most times.
