    New to this and have a 383 question?

     



    Hey, im fairley new to the whole hot rod thing and for my project truck im looking to make the 350 block that i have into a 383. Its a 4 bold main so im not really worried about the strength but i was wondering if i have to bore my cylinders out any to make it a 383? Also is it good to invest in the kits or should i go with the 400 crank and rods?

    I had a friend with a 400 smallblock Camaro race car, with a Powerglide, that ran in the 10s with a stock iron crank. I watched him race it every week for about three years. Depends on what you do with it.

    I would go with the kit no major clearnce issues you can use the stock 5.7 rods or 6 if you like. Is the block early or late (2 pice or 1 pice rear main seal. IMO use the Scat crank. My 383 I have Scat crank and rods www.ScatCrankshafts.com and KB hyper pistons United Engine and Machine Co, the places you will have to check will be the pan rail area for the bottom end of the rod, the rod bolt at the cam. Any good machine shop can do the clearnce work as part of the prep work for a stroker. A 4.0 bore and 3.75 stroke 377/ 4.030 , 3.75 383 and so on. Hope this helps Dave

    Why not just use a 400? The "weak link" of the 400 is the crank, if you're using that, use the block too. I've run 400's in my Camino, and they're torque monsters.
