Gas in the oil
I have a 350cid motor with about 125,000 miles. I just started the motor up after it has been sitting for about a year. The oils seems to smell like gas a little bit. What would cause that? There is blue smoke coming out of the exhaust probably from the worn valve guides.
Thanks in advance,
Ralph

fuel mixture blowing past the rings after sitting so long, maybe a couple of stuck rings.

gas smell in oil.
Doughnut ! Keep a close eye on your oil level. Fuel pumps sometimes will blow gaoline into the block, thus the smell in the oil. If it does this your oil level will rise. Also your viscosity will drop way down..

Yup, what they said. First off if it smells real gassy you probably ought to change it. It can get some gas in there like that from sitting, the rings might not seal as well till you get some run time on it. But like deltahomer said keep a good eye on oil level to make sure it's not something else, I have had the fuel pump leak on me also and that's an easy fix.
