rust in cylinder, Pl's help! what do I do???

Hi Everyone, I pulled the heads off of my engine after soaking it for 6 months in a combination of Marval's Mystery Oil, Diesel Fuel & Transmission Fluid. But there is still a little rust in one of the cylinders {at the top, a spot about the size of a silver dollar. I would think that this would mess up the rings if I ran the engine without doing anything about it??? Can I just use a little steel wool to get this out??? If I hone the cylinders can this be done without taking the pistons out??? Some of the cylinders also had a little bit of a ridge at the very top, not much but I can feel it with my finger nail. This motor only has about 3 thousand miles on it. I also pulled the Oil Pan and it looked good down there {no rust}..... Thanks Everyone! ;) Bill

You might try a piece of 320 wet/ dry paper soaked in automatic trans fluid, just make sure you wipe it out good after your done . I would also wipe the cylinders down with motor oil before I put it back together. I would not hone it unless I was going to take the motor apart and replace the rings. Carlg

I would think that if you needed to soak the engine in oil, might there be some other issues related to rust such as crank bearings and cam bearings?

Thank You Orange, Cuda & Denny. First I'm going to try to clean it with the 320 wet/dry. Then if I have to I'll try pulling the pistons and honing it. I've never 'gone into' and engine to that degree before so I'm hesitant to do so. I just sooked the cylinders in oil cuz the motor sat for years with a couple of spark plugs out.
Originally I was going to put this motor into a '32 that I'm having built but now I'm thinkiing of building something else for it. I'm going to do another post and see what everyone thinks of my new plan.... Thanks again and tomorrow I'll hit Ace Hardware for the wet/dry ;) Bill
