TH350 Trans & 350 Small Block
I have a '63 Jeep Gladiator Pickup with a 350 Small Block and a TH350 Trans. I recently put in a new trans because the torque converter sheared the gears off in the pump. The local garage told me that the torque converter was too far out of the pump. The problem is that I had to pull the torque converter out to bolt it to the flexplate. The guy at the garage said that the converter is too far out of the pump. So what I am asking is...what should be the clearance be between the flexplate and torque converter when the trans housing is against the engine block? If its 3/8"-1/2", can the torque converter be pulled against the flexplate without pulling the converter out of the pump far enough that damage will occur to the gears (teeth)? If 3/8"-1/2" is too much, is there some type of spacer kit available to go between the flexplate and the torque converter. And also...does the recessed or flat face of the flexplate face the transmission? I am asking because the guy at the garage said the flexplate could be on backwards. If someone could please help me out with my problem that would be great and I would really appreciate it. My email is Psuz199@comcast.net if you want to reach me there. Thank You! -Bobby
