305 Help!!
I bought a s10 blazer that had a custom 305 motor swap in it, But the motor was real disqusting, so i got a rebuilt 305 installed, they used my old carb and alternator, everything else was replaced, i had no problems.. then my fan belt broke as i was driving, so i got it towed home and replaced the belt. Then the truck wouldn't turn over. I brought it back to the motor place, and he told me i needed to put a new carb on it, so i brought it home, swaped the intake manifold and carb. Now the truck will start when its cold, sometimes stalls, and when its hot it wont turn over. I don't know what to do.. any help?

Sounds like a problem with the ignition. Take it to an electrical shop or if your handy make sure your getting power to the starter. Ive seen lots of loose battery cables that cause problems. Also maybe when your belt broke it caused damage to something, fuel line, battery cable. Does the starter solenoid spin or is it just dead? Is your battery charged. Is your alternater charging. Put a volt meter on the battery when not running, the voltage should be around 11.5 to 12 volts, then start the engine and if the battery is being charged the voltage should be around 13 to 14.4 volts. If its not that high you should replace your alternater. It is probably something very simple.

It's quite simple actully, you overheated the motor a little, the starter solonoid is right next to the exzaust, in the cramped engine compartment, it heats up the solonoid enough that it dosn't engauge, the simple solution is to get heat wrap for the starter. As for the engine stalling, the carb is probably not tuned correctly.

I agree with matt167. Starter overheat problem has occured. Based on "won't turn over."
Actually I agree with all of what he said.

It depends on what you mean by "Not turn Over". Are you saying that the starter will not turn the engine or it won't start. Two different things here. It is hard to determine the problem if it is not understood completely.
It sounds to me like you are saying that it won't start, rather than saying that the starter won't turn the engine. If it was running good when the belt broke, the intake and carb shouldn't have to have been replaced. Kind of sounds like the person that rebuilt your engine is blowing smoke up your leg to me.

When the belt broke, how hot did the engine get before you stopped??? If it ran good before and doesn't run good now, maybe you overheated it and wounded some parts????

My buddy suggested the same thing as Matt yesterday, so i am going to try that today.. But.. It will try and turn over, but it doesn't have that extra umph to start the truck and the battery is not dead..

This may sound stupid, but is it possible that the timing may be too high and kicking back cause it to be hard to start? It is really difficult to be guessing about these things without seeing them.
I hate the term "Won't turn over". You never know what people really mean by that.

timings good.. checked it with a gun friday.. but when i say it wont turn over, it is almost there.. and when u pump the gas it almost starts but just falls short..

Loosen the distributor hold-down bolt and rotate the distributor cap clockwise about a 1/4", re-tighten the bolt and try it again.

Almost sounds like the engine is flooded and has one or two plugs firing, but not able to crank it over. Check the plugs and see if they are wet.
The way most people were interpreting it, the engine would not crank at all. That is what I thought when I first read your post. Engine turns but will not start. Correct? How can you check the timing with a gun if it is not running? Hummmm.

pull all the plugs. I had a my old firebird do that. I overheated it and cracked a head. I had # 8 filled with coolant

It runs when the engine is cold, but once it gets hott then when u shut it off, it wont re-start
