Edlebrock Performer would sound pretty good, a mildly radical cam would have a slightly rough idle but, may not idle too well on the smaller motor.

A free 305 is too expensive. What i mean is, it is a waste of your time and cam money to do anything to this motor. go get a 350.

a 350 cam will bolt in and turn in a 305.

will it work? Depends on your expectations I suppose. The same cam will work ina 305, 350 and 400. as the engine gets bigger the cam is milder, or vice versa. However, you can go too far and have too much lift (and bend things) or end up with an engine that will not run under 2000 rpm (as in no idle) or have insufficient vacuum for street use (have power brakes? maybe not...).

I sound is what you want, get a good MP3 of a car you like (fuellie dragster - I mean, why go part way) and 1500 watts or more and just turn up the stereo. Would be better 'music' than what most folks play on their oversized stereos.

PS Anyone got a fuelie recording? My wife's minivan needs some image enhancement.

I had a 307 bored +.06 that I got for $100 for my first motor. I put a 270 comp cam in it and it did sound pretty good. Another thing you cold do is get some roller rockers. Put 1.5 ratio on the intake and 1.6 on the exhaust and this may give you the thump your looking for plus if you do decide to move up to a 350 the rockers will also work for that too.

hey dude,if you get the thing for free...take it.depending on which 305 it is,you might be happy with it for now(z-28 305 ho).the 350 cam will have a little lump, but not too much.but as the other guy said,a 350 would obviously be better.there is a few good engines out there, you just need to look for them.check in alleys, alot of the time, people will tell you, "you tow it,it's yours".

    Neither, I stepped up to a 350 +.03 w/a 284 crane cam. The original engine was a 330.

You can, BUT it will not be emissions legal.
If ithte 305 is free or nearly so, and the camaro nothing special, than it may be worth the effort. For the same effort and not much more money you can put a 350 in there and get more power

regarding 'cams' - typo? the small block chevy motor has but one cam.
