Slow Ride hit the question dead on. Early 283 (and 265) SBC had front mounts. Literally on the front of the engine, just outside the timing cover. Just take a look. If the mounts are there, you'll probably have to switch around. The General made side mount 283s, but I don't think there were front mount 327s.
