500 hp? You must be on a Doctor's salary. Take that 350 to a machine shop and turn it into a 383 stroker with some nice dart heads. You'll be happier with the torque rather than the hp. You don't need that much power unless you are taking it to the drags, or you just want to really drop some serious cash.
tech it was 376' my bad there... and i did a little digging and found ones in dragster clear back in 63!! 376'er musta been a windin bad boy hehehe. still like my 301's:3dSMILE: :LOL:
that would have been a 327 bored 0.060" over with a 3 5/8" crank. (.7854 x 4.06 x 4.06 x 3.625 x 8 = 375.44, which they rounded off to 376 cubic inches)

Tech or Gasser, Do either one of you have anymore info on the 376. That must have been a small journal 327. That's really Old School. I like it!! Would like more information.I wonder if cranks and pistons would still be available. I think I still have a sleeper article here making something like 357 out of a 327.

wow lots of ideas now... jezz.. haha umm ya im kinda likin the 377 idea... and where that would take me... also you never hear about them.. thats the other problem with makin sumthin out of a 400 is i dont wanna spend 500 bucks on just a radiator to custom fit where it is now... but i dunno .. well see.. keep the thread goin .. im learnin more ... thanks guys
tim, when you get to be my age, you plan an installation to be bulletproof because you know if you don't, you're gonna have to do it over or live with a less than optimized system.
You don't have to spend 500 bucks for a radiator to cool a 400 in your truck. Locate a '75 to '76 Cadillac that would have a 500 cid motor in it. In all the research I've done, that car had the largest radiator available in a stock package. Take the radiator core support, radiator, shroud, viscous drive and fan off it. Remove the core support from your truck and graft in the support from the Cadillac. Take the radiator to a radiator shop and have it boiled out. If the viscous drive is no longer a player, replace it with a new piece from Autozone. Start by adapting the Cad fan to your Chevy pulley, then place the fan blades half-in and half-out of the shroud opening, that will tell you where the core support needs to be located. Chop up the support as needed and weld or bolt it into the truck. Voila!!!!, bulletproof cooling system.

327. take a look at www.speedomotive.com . I would still be interested to see if what you have was done the same way. While you're looking at that sight ,check out the biggest small block they have. I think you'll be suprised.:whacked:

so what is the wildest "small" small block combos youve seen (any 283's 327's 350's and 400's.///.. just to bring up sommore disscussion... so far.. the coolest thing ive seen was a 327 (all engine at that ) in an OLDSMOBILE.. with a muncie 4 speed behind it and a ford 9inch... full interior but caged and custom frame... phat tires ... and runs low 9's... its kickass hahaah
its either that or the local 68 around where i live.. its running a 406.. 106 mm turbo and a air to water intercooled.. heheh its hella awsome... fastest ive seen from it was a 8.6 quarter.. amazing.. and it dogged off the line
Yeah, wow ... uh. Guys I hate to break it to you, but it's easy and cheap as all sin to get that horsepower out of a 350. I found a 350 block with a guy that had a 400 crank, and .030 over 10.5:1 pistons with 5.7 rods. with 2500$ i've bought the block, i've bored it out .030 over to a 383, and I have pulled 520 hp without nitrous, and 670 with nitrous out of my IROC-Z. All I have is a mild port job on the 1989 350 IROC-Z heads, an Edelbrock RPM Airgap intake, a built and matched drivetrain with an edelbrock .542 lift roller cam, and a holley 750 on top of it. Mated to it is a slightly built 700-r4 transmission, mated to 3.73 rear gears. Now if you don't want it bored, I pulled 420 hp out a 350 with ported heads and a ford bottom end with a mild cam and 9.7:1 Hyperutectic pistons ... I spent about 1000$ on all that ... so, yeah All this guy needs is a port job with a ford bottom end with a mild cam/valvetrain. He could put a safe shot of nitrous on it and pull maybe over 500 hp. If you know the right places to go, I gurantee you can pull the horsepower you're looking for no problem for about 1500-2000$ I run consistent mid and low 6's in the 8'th mile in my daily driven IROC, and i'm 16 years old and on a budget :)
that lead sled iroc u r talking about with those dogsh&* pistons will never see
500 hp or 6's in the eigth,,especially with a 3.73 gear,u need to sell that somewhere else son,it aint flushing here,course u r 16
