Oil Pans
I have a 1980 4-bolt SBC 350 I am rebuilding. I have a 1-piece rear main seal crank and flywheel. The dipstick is on the passenger side of the block. Do I use a 1980-1985 pan or a 1986 and later pan considering the one piece rear main seal setup? Does the one piece require a difference rear bearing cap?

Tricky... The 1980 block is a 2 piece rear, so you will need to convert it. I don't remember if you need a special rear main cap or if you can just use a 1 piece rear main cap out of a new block. Either way, you'll need an align hone if you replace a cap. I believe the back of oil pan is different to accomodate the 1 piece seal, so you will need a pan off of an 86 or newer engine. The dipstick on 1980 and later blocks is on the passenger side, it is also on the passenger side of the 1 piece rear main blocks which means an 86 or later pan should bolt right up.
