Chevy 350 Question?
I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell a 350 CI 4 bolt main from a 2 bolt main without taking the oil pan off? The engine code number 3970010 says that it could be a 2 or a 4 bolt

If ya had an X ray machine, the pan might be thin enough to look through with it but, if you used it, you'd also be steril
Your gonna have to pull the pan if the block ID says it can be both.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

that or if its a junkyard motor and you're planning on replacing the pan... cut it open with a hacksaw

If it's the engine that came in your 78 El Camino the chances are it is a four bolt. That casting has been used for some time in both two and four bolt versions. Most passenger vehicles got the two bolt but the trucks and yes the El Camino is a truck and severe duty engines were four bolts. Hope this helps.

The ElCamino Still has the orignal 307 in it. The 350 is from a 78 GMC pickup truck
