305 vs. 350

Had to jump in here and boast about a 351 cleveland I put in a 79 short bed F150 4x4. It was built by a speed shop in Louisville and it rocked! I don't know the numbers but I wish I had never sold it for a new set of drums :mad:

Speaking of Talladega, nothing made me happier than to see Johnson get shoved out of line at the end. I would have much rather seen McMary win than Jeffy. Getting tired of hearing about Hendrick and DEI quite frankly.

I've beena Mark Martin fan for years (the king of IROC). Getting tired of his bad luck though. Last year to win a championship and it ain't looking good lately.

I agree. Mark Martin is a fantastic driver too, just unfortunate he hasn't had a championship. Kurt Busch is still a good driver.

all of them can drive do they wouldn't be there. I don't pull for Jeff and I don't like to see the same one win all of the time, I was just saying anybody think Gordon is just a mediocre race car driver don't know what it takes to be a good one. anybody that's won a championship is a good driver and if you have won more than one then you're that much better. :cool:

I still stand by the mediocre comment. Stick him in someone elses car and see how good he is. Instead of saying he's a good driver I'll concede and say he's a successful driver. Maybe part of his success lies in how him and his crew communicate with eachother. I'll also say his crew is damn good at dialing in a car as the race progresses. Hendrick motorsports has, for the most part, an incredible engine program. I'll also say that he has incredible luck by being in the right place at the right time. Maybe he was a great dirt track racer, but out there on the pavement there are still drivers out there more talented than him.

Jeff Gordon is far from being my favorite, but he is far above being a mediocre driver!!! I watched him in a CRA non-winged sprinter in Manzanita when he was 15 years old!!! He drove the wheels off the thing, won his heat and the main against some very real and well seasoned talent. He was awesome in USAC, and his record in NASCAR speaks for itself. Once you advance to that level in Motorsports your abilities are far above mediocrity.

as much as I believe Jimmy Johnson is a little turd of a clone of gordon. I believe he has more potential than Jeff.

one thing I'd like to see him do is race in IRL or an SCCA class (not all SCCA's are ricers)

One thing I credit him for is the popularity of the sport and for making everyone else have to be more competitive. LIke I said look at IROC

Think he allready won a road race, didn't he win at Sonoma a year or so ago?? Not so sure he doesn't have a win at the Glen, too. IROC is a good times deal for most of these guys. a few races in a car you have no voice in chassis set up or equipment. When you look at all of his other successes, IROC is really no big deal. I believe he was a national champ in carts, too. It's obvious you don't like him, but like him or not he has a ton of talent and will be a factor in Motorsports for years to come.

There ya go, Mike. NASCAR fans are a bit on the fickle side, you can go from hero to zero and back again in the same season!!!!! Gordon was an unbelievable talent in USAC, as was Tony Stewart. Gordon surprised me going to NASCAR, always figured he would be in CART or IRL for a career. I would think he would have been quite successful in either of those, too.

Firebird, the best thing you can hope for here is that this thread gets lost and no one can find it, because in 5 years when Jeff Gordon is touted to be the best stockcar driver that ever lived, You will be able to say,WHO ME! I didn't say that. NOT ME!!!

Keep in mind ,I have been a fan, crew member, driver,car owner over the last 54 years. LT1S10 has a simular racing background.

I have never pulled for Jeff Gordon on even one lap and yet while I was routing aganist him he won 72 races in the past 11 years.No other driver has even come close and I dont have the
figures in front of me ,but I think I heard recently that all the other Hendrick's drivers put together dont have that many wins combined. And Rick Hendrick has had some very good race drivers over the years.

I would rather Jeff didn't pass Dale Sr.,Waldrip,Cale, Bobby Allison and David Pearson on the most wins list,but if he stays healthy it will happen in the next 5 years.

Richard Pettys record will proberly never be broken ,but in his 200 wins most of those races didnt have 5 cars capable of winning. Thats not the case today and Richards winning percentage was no where near as good as Jeffs.

Like I said, I have never been a Jeff Gordon fan,But I certainly respect him and am just amased at his accomplishments.

jeff would have done great anywhere he went. he drives smart. id love to see him try F-1 :cool:
