Need more information,,,is it HEI ?? or standard point type ignition.??
what where the circumstances leading up to the condition you described??

That's because the block doesn't produce spark, the ignition coil does!

ok i have the wire from the starter it has a (S) CORRECT i have that wire... right now runnig to the bat so that way i can make the car start with out using the key ok now i am not getting spark from the coil my points are moving when i trun the car over but iam not getting spark how should the wires form the coil be the + goes where the - goes to the points correct but where does the + from the coil go. sorry for little info thanks for trying to help ::::::::notes the car was working and runnig before i put a new starter one more thing i am putting new wires in the car so iam not using the the key iam trying to start it direct so i can move it from where its at . hopefully this helps

Well, the "S" wire will make the starter run, but you won't have any power to the coil without the switch on or a separate power wire to the coil.

You need to go to your public library and take out a book.

+ on the coil is switched power,then another wire to the positive will be the balast resister wire,,,and negative goes to your distributor points.
