    On that engine look on the back of the block (driverside) where it bolts to the tranny it WILL be cast and have either 5.0L or 5.7L

    5.0 = 305.....5.7 = 350

    hope that helps

    Another tip....usually late 70's till mid 90's a 305 will have a fat harmonic balancer you cannot get your finger between the balancer and the timing chain cover.... A 350 you can... this works 90% of the time....
