307 / 350 question

Morning, a friend of mine asked me to help him restore his 71 chevelle, essentially the bodywork, wiring, interior, etc, and I gladly accepted. No big problems there. We were talking yesterday about the engine, and here is where I have a question. It currently has a stock 307 w/ 2BBl carb. He wanted to know about 1) getting a 4BBL intake and carb or 2) (his preference) putting in a 350. I haven't done a swap in a while, and never on someone else's car, and I was hoping for a little advice. Am I correct in believeing that the 350 would be a basic bolt in for this car ? Last engine swap I did was on my asphalt modified. Appreciate input.If it were my car, I'd do it, but since it's someone else's, I don't want to get his hopes up to high without being certain, especially since I am just a hobbiest.

The 350 into a 307 car is a direct bolt in.. Should be no problems (other the normal skinned knuckles, etc).

If he doesn't want to go to to much expense and the 307 is any good ,you can put a small cam like a edelbrock performer,timing set and a performer intake( or something like it) a600cfm or smaller carb and a set of small tube headers . You will notice a vast improvment.

That is a setup I had kicked around, but he was hoping to do the 350, he has one available to him at a fair price. I'll toss that idea to him as well, or mention that those mods to the 307 could reduce his overall investment.

307 have same stroke as 327 you can bore 307 to 4" and make a 327 or put in 350 crank and make a 350 out of the 307 nice thing about this is you now have a standard bore 4" block the casting is the same just smaller bore gm did this for cost saving less molds for same block style

I did this and had terrible heating issues and the first cold spell we had and i had antifreeze in it.... CRACKED... start over....

Hey if your friend decides to go with the 350. shout at me i would love to get the 307 mine is dead...
