I think u might have to get a little oily,they some sorta shield to cut down on the oil bath ,but i think it still slings it everywhere.Just be paitent u dont have to post a bunch of times,it usually takes 48 to 72 hours for everyone to cycle thru and see ur post!!!!:)
Use the clip on little nylon stopper thingys. Thats what I use when cleanliness is a premium.. All the franchise parts stores sell em and you probably can find them at real Auto Parts stores too..
Yes you can adjust them like any other lifter.
If I build a new street engine I usually adjust my lifters while the engine is on the stand with no intake on it. With the lifter on the backside of the cam I adjust the rocker arm till there is no play then about 1/2 turn on a performance hyd lifter engine. Just enuff that I can see the plunger down, away from the snap ring in the lifter. I can say, I do not get any lifter noise on new startups. After break in I then do a standard hot lash if I feel the need. Those little white buttons come in handy!! I got tired of dealing with hot oil and messy fenderwells, smoke and worst of all cleaning up the mess!!!

I know a guy who prefers the "hot adjustment" method on chebbies, he has a pair of valve covers with holes punched in the top of them that line up with the adjustment nuts. No muss, no fuss. Old stamed steel valve covers are probably about $2.oo at your nearest bone yard.
Yup, same procedure this dude uses on his chebbies. Neat, clean, simple, and cheap. Fulfills all the requirements of being Hot Rod Technology.
