hi volume/ pressure oil pump problem
Hello again evryone. I have new heads on my 327 ; the bottom end has about 5000 miles on it. I am about ready to install the manifold. Before doing this, I attempted to pre-oil my engine as instructed by the book. I used a home made straight slotted bit to turn the oil pump shaft. The engine has about 4 -1/2 qts. of oil in it right now.
The pump shaft is sort of hard to turn making the drill have to grunt to get it to turn at all. Is this normal? I thought the pump should spin freely. Or is this somthing that a hi volume/ pressure pump does? Just as a side note, this motor idles with around 45 pounds of pressure, and 80 lbs. at 2500 rpms and up. Since I have the motor on the stand, I wonder if i ought to pull the pan and replace the pump with a "normal" pump. Also, the shaft has a little bit of play, but I assume this is normal.
Basically, I am scarred to death as the oil pump is the life blood of the motor! HELP!
Sprayed the cab, it's a long story, I had to re shoot it. Color sanding and buffing it now.
