I've only bought one crate motor, but I think Chevy's factory prices are much better than Mitchells for a similar engine. I'm betting Mitchell's are better overall quality - but how much do you want to pay?

I bought a Fast Burn 385, 385hp@5600, 385lbs-ft@4000. But, I added the factory Hot Cam and 1.6 roller rockers, which takes the motor to 430hp@5800 and 430lbs-ft@4000. Added a Speed Demon 750 with vacuum secondaries. Should be plenty for a 2800 lb. car.

$4126 + $495 for the cam & lifters.

I probably could have built one for a better price, but I was new in this area, don't know any of the performance engine builders, and by the time I found a block and added up the parts, there wasn't much diffference.

If you want a Hi-Po crate engine, it's hard to beat the factory units these days.
