Suggestion for low-buck street-rod intake?

Here's the mission:
I've got a 283 in my 1954 Chev pickup. There's like 2' of clear space between the intake and the hood. I'm looking for suggestions for an intake set-up that will come up high enough to have some eye appeal. This is a look-good, putt-around-town street rod, not a racer, so I am not looking to drop huge bucks on high-performance parts.
Currently, I've got a Carter AFB carb on the cast-iron manifold, topped by two stacked circular air filters on a cheap chrome filter set-up, topped by a baby-moon hubcap! No joke! It's kind of ghetto, but it bearly sticks up high enough to be noticed.
Ideas??

what are you looking to cut a hole in the hood? if u are get a mr.gasket street scoop or an old hillborn looking style lol...........scooter

No, not looking to cut the hood. I just thought it would be nice, when I pop the hood, if something actually showed above the front fenders.

You could get an Air Gap intake from Eldebrock...as long as performance isn't an issue, for about 75 bucks used. They sit up nice, and you can also pick up a bikini style air breather in chrome for your "top off"

I've been looking at those, Victor Jr's, and the like. They're recommended for higher-horsepower engines than mine. But they do look cool. What are they going to do to a 283's performance, though?

A victor jr is a single plane manifold, there going to hurt you more than help, there power range comes at way above a normal driving rpm, I think like 3,500 or 4k. Your gonna want a dual plane manifold, there power range comes in at 1,500 - 2k, Edelbrock Air gaps, performer's, Performer RPM's are all exzamples of dual planes. The diffrence between dual plane and single plane is, if you look at them, a single plane has 1 big hole for the carb, and a dual plane has 2 holes, split down the middle.

I had an Offy 360 and a 650 double pumper on the 400 sb I had in my '62 pickup. I had to use a drop base air cleaner to clear the hood. I was also running an old Isky 30/30 solid lifter cam and had plenty of low end grunt.

Oh, gawd no, too "ricey". You're kidding, right? It needs to be functional. I want some eye appeal without being fake, not too spendy, and the taller it sits, the better.
