we did all we usually do,.....................i am not sure!
Either someone forgot to put a bearing in, or the oil pump is NFG.
We built an engine at the shop that had that problem, worried us to death, it just ended up being some problem with the regulator by-passing. Does it pump oil out the port at the back of the block when you prime the engine? Or maybe the contact surface of the pump has not seated correctly.
Depending on the engine - you forgot to mention which one - the oil pump could have lost it's prime.
Packing them with vaseline prior to startup assures the oil pump will get primed.
If you have a remote oil filter, you may be able to remove the line going to the pump and fill it full of oil.
If you didn't do the pre-lube bit and ran the engine for only a few seconds, the pump may not have picked up a prime and pressurized the system fully.
Pre-lubing will let you know here.
