    how can i tell what size my chevy engine is

     



    ok a year ago i bought the 72 chevy c10 as a project truck...well i'm almost done with the engine....new bearings basicly i rebuilt it ...and i have enery thing done..now the engine isnt the same year as the truck because the one of the prevous owner sitched the engine on it...i the guy i bout it from said it had a 1967 chevy 327....sso i bought a starter for that engine..it didnt fix..and i went to return it and i was buying a new distuber to and the guy said well that disbuter is for around a 76 so he got me a start and distbuter...i tried the started it fit but i didnt put it in at the time because i still had toreplace the bearings..and i went to put it in today and blelieve it or not some one stole my strater...i called auto zone and they said some one retured a starter under my name...so i'm like ok what ever i need the same starter and they said they needed the engine so i said 76 chevy 327 they said no such thing so i'm ready to start this bad boy up but i need to know the engine spec can some one tell me it theeres a way to tell with out haveing to take it apart ? thanks

    If you have a 327 the casting number is usually located on the rear on the left or drivers side on top of bellhousing.

    what size?

     



    on the back upper side there is some med.. size numbers starting with a 3 more then likely like 397 or some thing like that go to this site it will tell you everything you need to know about s/b in
    b/b chevy engines.... http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm
    go to small blocks casting numbers have yours off the block first.

    thanks so much all.....ita a 76 350 so when it warms up here ( north east ohio ) i'll put in the new starter and fire it up.....looking forward to the day.....but i dont feel like crawling under the truck while theres still snown on the ground....but like i said thanks much
