Just so it can be told, I did file fit the upper rings and measure/verify the lowers. I filed the uppers for heavy towing/extreme use as per KB because the truck that the engine is in will be severly used and abused as far as weight goes.
As for the injection and changing vac signals....I am not up on what the parts of a fuel injected are. I know your refering MAP (manifold absolute pressure) but have no clue what it looks like or where it is. Nor would I know how to manipulate its signal. I do know that a MAP on my Powerstroke can be fooled by putting a 10K resister in line with it going to the ECM, this will trick the ECM into dumping more diesel into the engine. Is there a similar trick on these things? I assume that my problem is the opposite, that I am running rich currently. I have not been back to the truck to pull a plug, and I wont have time to back for a few months....but rich is cool and safe, so I'm not in a panic. There is no know sensor on this engine as well, I'm not sure what effect that has on the ECM and its fuel map/timing map.
Well you on the right train of thought.... but as far as the injection goes lets get real....
The stock maps were calibrated for a 350.....you just put in a bigger engine and unless the 383 has a less Bsfc than the 350..which it doesn't it's going to be lean......
The 383 move more air thru the engine than the 350 did..because it's bigger displacement....do you catch my drift?
You are not going to realize the "full" potential of the 383 until you chip the ECM....The nice people at www.jetchip.com and build you one...they are inexpensive and if you like you can visit there site and get the customer service number .....call them... tell them exactly what you have and what you did with the engine and they will hook you up....
Also if you have access to a SNAP-ON portable engine scanner ( the red one) this neat tool can actually LEARN the ECM to the new engine and reset it to new specs...only problem is with that unit...every time you disconnect the battery you'll have to do it again.....T
