missing some block #'s
I bought an engine from a guy some time back, I'm thinking on rebuilding it . He said it was a 327 but a friend of mine says it's a 350 problem is some of the block #'s are gone is there some easy ways to be sure without tearing into it. Any help would be cool.
Thanks

Tho some 327 and 350 blocks are the same. What are the CAST in numbers on the drivers side bellhousing area (such as 3970010). With these we can get somewhat of an idea of the block.

Do You have the Motor out where you can see the back of the crankshaft?A small journal 327 crank looks very different from a 350 . Are there no casting numbers or date codes on the back of the block, left side. What heads are on it ? Someone could have changed the heads but maybe not. Take the valve covers off and give me the part# and date codes.

try www.mortec.com they show you where the block numbers are and they have a listing off chevy V8 block numbers. as long as you read you will find out all you need to know there.
