Knocking in Timing Cover
There is a knocing in the timing chain cover of my 2 yea old 427 bbc. We figured out that the cam was walking out and the cam button is hitting the cover. Where do I go from here to stop this noise? Any suggestion??

do you have a gear drive on it?there shouldn't be but like a 1/16 of an inch clearance between the button and cover.the big gear(on idler drive) should be on the pass. side of engine.it provides a "mesh"and causes the cam gear to want to push cam into engine.if the big gear is on drivers side it could cause it to want to "walk" the cam out.just a thought

Remove the waterpump, drill a hole in the timin' cover, then weld a nut over it, make sure it lines up with the cam gear center, then just install a bolt in the welded on nut and tighten it 'til the noise stops... Re-install the waterpump!!
I believe a much simpler solution wood' B earplugs."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Or ............................. from my house buildin', door shimmim' dayz. A wood wedge (shim) betwixt the pump N' timing cover. Drive it in while the engine iz' runnin' soz' ya' don't get it too tight. Nuttin' worser than givin' yer Big Block a wedgie."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
