Advice needed: Pushrod length and valve lash

Hi Guys,

I'm attempting my first full engine rebuild on a Gen V big block. I'm installing an edelbrock top end kit with hydraulic roller lifter conversion, roller rockers etc.

I've been watching a lot of youtube video's on measuring the correct pushrod length and setting the valve lash and now my head is kind of scrambled with all of the contradicting information and various methods.

Should the lifters be primed for setting both the rod length and the valve lash or does it just depend on which method I use? What is the best method for priming the lifters? Is installing lighter valve springs to measure the rod length 100% necessary?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site. Nice to see you here. Dubai is a long way from where I am sitting! LOL..

The only advice I can offer you (and it is just my opinion!) is that you should ask Edelbrock what they prefer 'cause they made it and you may need them to warranty something. You'd be better following their instructions.

Having said that, Yes to full lifters and I don't like the springs to light. to easy to go long if not careful. To prime the lifter I like to immerse/submerge the lifter in a container full of oil - push the center up and down until no air bubbles - as you already know, there are a bunch of ways to do these things. I'm sure others will come along and share their ideas / likes / dislikes / opinions..
