this was very helpful thanks
Both heads are open chamber and will make a very good and affordable street machine head with up to 9.5:1 static compression ratio on pump gas. You should engineer in a tight squish, 0.035" to 0.045", to help prevent detonation on pump gas.
336781.....73-85...oval port...OPEN CHAMBER...454, 118cc chamber, 256cc intake ports / 114cc exhaust ports
353049.....73-84...oval port...OPEN CHAMBER...454, 122cc chamber, 255cc intake ports / 119cc exhaust ports
I would use a burette and colored alcohol to cc the combustion chambers so you know what piston to use. Heads this old have been through an untold number of owners and you have no idea what has been done to them over the years.
.
Hi good info.my next question is. I have a 454 361959 the heads are 336781. engine is in good shape, close to 150 lbs in all cylinders. I want to add a hi performance cam kit. intake and carb. looking to use in a lighter weight street rod vehicle. I would appreciate your suggestions Thanks xdazzler
Whatever cam you add I would suggest conversion to roller lifters--------since your starting on something new I would suggest sourcing a later block that is already factory equipped with roller lifters---------I don't often suggest to any customers to fix up the older engines for todays fuels and oils seem to be designed with EPA rules that will get all the older vehicles off the road and it seems to be working-
oil wipes out camshafts
fuel wipes out valve seats
I had some semi closed chamber heads on my last 396 and those heads worked pretty awesome. I don't have the casting numbers anymore from them but I could get them. i sold it to a buddy, he hurt it and the truck hasn't moved for a while.
thanks once again for the good info xdazzler
