402bbc build cam question

Here's what I got. 72 402 bored over .40 block #3999290 8.5-1 compression, stock 241 heads 113cc, Edelbrock performer rpm intake, quadrajet carb, with a 700r tranny. I recently bought this motor, it had a Energizer 272 cam that had been completely wiped with a couple bent-broke push rods. I've got it all tore down and I'm struggling with which cam to go with. I've ruled out flat tappet, going to go with a retro fit roller set up. This is going in my daily driver, a 66 4dr Impala. It will never see the strip, I just would like a little more get up and go without going too big and making her a slug on take off. I've called comp twice and got two different answers, one was to go with the xe270, one was the xe268. I've heard good and bad about both. Please any help would be greatly appreciated!! This struggle is keeping me up at night :(

I have the same 72 402 but 30 over and I am running the 268 and love it. I think the rpm range was something like 1500-somewhere around 5000 Its very streetable.

That's really good to hear, do you have a stall converter you're running with it? How does it run, take off good, decent idle, vacuum problems etc? Sorry for the twenty questions you're just the first person I've come across that has the same set up and I'm dying to have an idea how mine will do, Thank you!! oh yeah, silly question but what's your average mpg? Just curious, not really concerned.

I have 402 with a 4000 lb Monte Carlo
9.31 compression edelbrock 6045 heads 1.8 rockers Holley 750 dp 3.73gears Neal chance 11 inch converter
First cam i used was roller 11-413-8 .212/.218 .510/.510 made 18 inches of vacuum great idle. Took it to track and with street tires ran a 15.5 spinning at least 35 feet down track. Then redlining about 3/4 way down track
The next cam was 11-423-8 .224/.230 .510/510 made 14.5 inches of vacuum rough idle not great street cam for 402 But took it to the track and this time put drag radiels on it. No spin and ran a 13.3 at 98 mph redlining about 20 feet from end of track. When I had the street tires on it it would just spin the tires when i hammered it

O yea I did run a comp 11-207-3 .224/.224 .510/.510 just a hydraulic lifter and it was the first cam i put in the moter. It ran horrible but I did have edelbrock 600 carb 2.73 gears 8.5 compression block was not torque plate honed or decked like the combos above were I can tell you first hand it makes a difference. Poor idle no power.
