79 454 block
I sold my last hotrod truck and have bought another. I have a 79 454 block to start with and was wondering if it will take a .060 over bore? I also have a set of 71 292 heads to rework. Should I spend the money on the head upgrade ( all new seats with 2.19 and 1.88's ) or just buy some new cast iron heads like merlins or summit racing heads?

Most 454 will take .125 overbore for 481 inches with stock 454 crank
Buy new aluminum heads---Dart, Edelbrock, etc---raised exhaust ports, smaller diameter valve stems, brass guides

I don't really want the expense of aluminum. so how about some cast iron options?

you named them----and they are HEAVY------------------------

A benefit of aluminum is faster heat transmission, which supports higher static compression without detonation. You can run 10.3 to 10.5 on premium pump gas with aluminum, but you best limit it to 9 to 9.5 with cast iron. And then there's the added weight....
